So, guys. If you have some extra or unwanted gloves do not throw them away. Any colour will do. You can actually use them to make something cute like teddy bears or whatever but I'm gonna make a chipmunk. Like the one below :D
| Cute? |
Very simple. First of all you need a glove, any colour. But of course not plastics or rubber gloves. Some stuffing either unwanted pieces of clothes or cotton, thick pipe cleaner, embroidery thread or yarn, some wooden beads, fabric pen and a pair of scissors, a needle and pins as well.
Tools and materials you need.
To begin, flip the gloves inside out and draw lines (indicates the parts) on the gloves using a fabric pen as shown in diagram below. Draw dotted lines at 3mm away from the seam to mark areas that are supposed to be sewn. Secure the parts using pins and cut them out. Sew along the dotted lines using brown thread. The parts are divided as below.

After these steps you will have the body parts of the chipmunk. Flip them right-side out. Prepare 3 pipe cleaners, 2 shorter & 1 longer. Bend them into U shape and insert the 2 shorter pieces into the legs and the longer piece into the tail. Insert stuffing around the pipe cleaners in the tail and legs as well as the body, head and also arms but do not stuff the ears.

Stuffed body parts.
Fold 5mm of the opening inside and sew the folded opening stuffed arms, tail and body.
Arms and tail ready.
Fold the opening of the head in following orders : left, right, bottom then top and sew to seal the opening. Look at the diagram below.
| Make sure it is neat. |
Gather the opening of the ears and insert them on the back of the head and sew them. (As in diagram below)
| Almost there :D |
Sew some coloured thread to decorate the tail using some embroidery thread. Here's some idea on how to sew coloured thread to decorate the tail.
Any colour will do.
Sew the stuffed arms, head and tail onto the body. Almost done.

Last step, use black thread for the eyes and sew the wooden bead for the nose. Bend the legs to create feet and shape for the tail. That's it, a cute chipmunk !

Here's a video on other idea to make DIY stuffed toys using other materials.
That's an innovative idea. Besides the fun part of it, maybe you should consider about earning some penny from this. You should try creating more of this cute figures and start selling them to your friends, family and consecutively to the public. You won't know how much it might benefit you until you try it (Y)

ReplyDeleteHi Wen Lin!!! The chipmunks that made from the glove is so cute and adorable. I like it really. It's really a good idea to make this as a present and give it to friends. It's DIY and really need much patient to make this. Besides, it prevents wastage of money to buy a present and it reduces the production of rubbish too. It's really meaningful. My suggestion is if you can make it yourself and take a picture of it and put it to your blog, I think this will be wonderful. Anyway, I like your blog very much. Thanks for sharing. Keep going!!!!

ReplyDeleteThanks Wen Lin for your blog. The colour of your blog looks soothing and calming. But I realised that you highlighted all words that you put in, was it intentional? Instead of putting a hyperlink to show the video, you could embed into your page as well. You should also use the tags to include some important keywords from your blog.
